This Isn’t America; This Was A Country In Africa Ravaged By War 16 Years Ago: Fastest Growing Economy

Life is all about what you make out of it. It doesn’t matter the challenges, the setbacks and the difficulties. What matters is the determination, the vision and the tenacity to achieve whatever ambition you set out to achieve in life.

This is very true of a country in Africa called Rwanda. If someone told you this country was ravaged by war in 1994 you couldn’t believe judging by how much they have fixed things in the country. This war/genocide was so horrendous that withing a couple of months, 500,000 – 1,000,000 people were gruesomely killed.

Rwanda is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley where the African Great Lakes region and East Africa converge. One of the smallest countries on the African mainland, its capital city is Kigali. Located a few degrees south of the Equator. Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania , Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is highly elevated, giving it the soubriquet “land of thousand hills”, with its geography dominated by mountains in the west and savanna to the east, with numerous lakes throughout the country. The climate is temperate to subtropical, with two rainy seasons and two dry seasons each year. Rwanda has a population of over 12.6 million living on 26,338 km2 (10,169 mi 2) of land, and is the most densely populated mainland African country.

According to Quartz Africa as shown below on the chart, Rwanda is the second fastest growing economy in Africa. The developmental strides in Rwanda is mind-blowing. ICT, electricity, agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, human capital development, employment, name them; Rwanda is doing exceptionally well in those sectors.

What an achievement by a country that was ravaged by war just 16 years ago. The country is fast developing every sector of the economy simultaneously.

Hats off for Paul Kagame the indefatigable President of Rwanda for the awesome developmental strides. This is what it means to be a sane president of a sane country.
