US President Joe Biden is set to announce that the US is providing an advanced surface-to-air missile system to Ukraine, as well as additional artillery support, according to a person familiar with the matter, in the latest assistance meant to help the country defend against Russia’s four-month invasion.

  • Weekend Chicago shootings: 23 shot, 5-month-old girl among 5 killed

Chicago weekend shootings have left at least 23 shot, five fatally, police said.

    SUNDAY

One person was killed and another wounded after gunmen opened fire on a CTA bus Sunday afternoon in Garfield Park. About 1:20 p.m., two armed males entered the bus in the 300 block of South Pulaski Road, walked to the back and began shooting at two people on board, Chicago police said. A male, whose age was unknown, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said. A man, 24, suffered a graze wound to the head and refused medical attention, police said. Following the shooting, the gunmen exited the bus and fled eastbound. Area Four detectives are investigating.

A man was shot to death early Sunday while leaving his car in the city’s Little Italy neighborhood on the Near West Side. The man, 32, was leaving his car in the 1300 block of West Roosevelt Road about 4:30 a.m. when he was shot twice in the chest, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said.

    SATURDAY

A 16-year-old girl was wounded by gunfire Saturday afternoon in Grand Crossing on the South Side. The teen was on a sidewalk in the 1500 block of East 75th Street about 4:30 p.m. when someone inside a car fired shots, striking her in the arm, police said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was reportedly in good condition, officials said.

About an hour earlier, three people were wounded in a shooting at a courtyard in Parkway Gardens on the South Side. Three men, between 18 and 20, were at the courtyard in the 6400 block of South King Drive about 3:20 p.m. when at least one person opened fire, Chicago police said. An 18-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 20-year-old man in the left arm, police said. Both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, officials said. A third man, 19, was grazed in the right leg and refused medical attention, police said. Area detectives were investigating.

    FRIDAY

A 5-month-old girl has died after she was shot while sitting in the back seat of a car in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood Friday. Police said that at about 6:45 p.m. the baby was in a vehicle in the 7700-block of South South Shore Drive when an unknown vehicle approached the car and someone inside opened fire. The baby was struck in the head and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition and died shortly after, police said. The baby’s mother told a victim advocate her daughter was on the way home at the time of the shooting.

A 41-year-old man who was in a separate car self-transported to University of Chicago Hospital with a gunshot wound to the eye area and is in good condition, police said. No one is currently in custody. Area detectives are investigating. Ja’Mal Green, who is running for Chicago mayor, announced a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.

A man was found shot to death Friday night in Longwood Manor – the second person found fatally shot in an hour. The man, 21, was found with gunshot wounds to his back and left shoulder in the 9600 block of South Princeton Avenue about 11:35 p.m., Chicago police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died from his injuries, police said. No one was in custody.

Less than an hour earlier, a man was found fatally shot less than three miles away in Pullman. The man, 45, was found by officers with multiple gunshot wounds in the 10700 block of South Champlain Avenue, Chicago police said. He was also taken to Christ, where he later died, police said. His name hasn’t been released yet.

Last weekend, 61 people were shot, 10 fatally.

  • Birmingham explosion: Man suffers life-threatening injuries

A man suffered life-threatening injuries in a gas explosion that destroyed a house in Birmingham and badly damaged at least three others.

Photos of the aftermath show a house completely hollowed out by the blast at 8.38 pm on Dulwich Road, in Kingstanding.

Four other men suffered more minor injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said people at the scene rescued a man from the destroyed house but he had “very significant injuries” and was taken to hospital.

Volodymyr Zelensky urges G7 to stop Russian aggression after missiles hit Kyiv

“There was a guy in the back (of the house), we could hear the guy screaming, but he was trapped up against the fridge in the kitchen.

The incident is believed to have been caused by a gas explosion, West Midlands Fire Service said.

A spokesperson from Cadent Gas said its personnel was at the site.

“Our teams are on-site at the incident in Kingstanding, assisting the multi-agency response as the gas emergency service for the West Midlands” they said.

“It is too early to speculate on the cause. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted.

“If ever anyone smells gas, nearby or anywhere, it is important to act immediately and ring the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999.”

West Midlands Police tweeted: “Thank you for all your kind words. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this.

“Emergency workers from all services and the energy companies are working really hard in very difficult circumstances.

“Thanks to people who have helped shocked and injured neighbors.”

An Ambulance spokesman tweeted: “We are currently dealing with a significant incident in Dulwich Road in the Kingstanding area of Birmingham.

“A large number of ambulances resources are at the scene along with @WestMidsFire and @WMPolice The public are asked to keep away from the area to allow us to work.”

  • Rory McIlroy leads Travelers Championship

    Travelers Championship, Rory McIlroy leads

    Rory McIlroy, results

On the TPC River Highlands course (par 70), Northern Irishman McIlroy leads the leaderboard for the third time this season after the first 18 holes of a top American men’s circuit. Good start also for Xander Schauffele, gold medal at the Tokyo Games, third with 63 (-7) like the Scottish Martin Laird.

Among the big names, Patrick Cantlay is in fifth position with 64 (-6). Same score for Charles Howell III and Webb Simpson. While Harris Englis, reigning champion, is tenth with 66 (-4). Not an exciting start for Scottie Scheffler.

The American, leader of the world ranking, is 30 / o with 68 (-2) after a round characterized by three birdies, with a bogey. He disappoints Jordan Spieth, only 148 / o with 75 (+5). For the Texan this is his highest score in 15 laps played at TPC River Highlands.

Rory uses an interlock grip for all of her shots. He has worked from a young age with various professional golfers including Darren Clarke, Nick Faldo, and Graeme McDowell. The latter often does field tests with Rory on the tour.

Rory was putted by Dave Stockton, a former PGA Tour player who works as a putt master. Initially he was taught by Englishman Andrew “Chubby” Chandler, a player on the European Tour who founded International Sports Management (ISM).

McIlroy left ISM in 2011, joining Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management. Michael Bannon has worked with Rory since October 2012. He has been engaged since 2011 with the Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, already number one in the WTA ranking, forming one of the most famous young couples in international sport.

On May 21, 2014, however, the two broke off their relationship shortly before the wedding. On April 22, 2017, he married Erica Stoll, a 29-year-old from Florida who works for the PGA, met at the 2012 Ryder Cup, and with whom he was engaged on May 31, 2015.

  • CNN worker resigns – puts family above job…

CNN weekend anchor Christi Paul said tearfully on Sunday that she would be leaving the network after 20 years. “I am part of the Great Resignation,” she said. The New Day Weekend host said she made the decision in January, citing her early schedule keeping her away from her family. “At some point, my husband and I looked at each other and said, ‘We need to get back home,’” Paul said to her co-host Boris Sanchez, later adding: “I was tired of being tired.” She said she would join a news station in Ohio, which would put her close to her family, though she did not name where exactly she would end up.
