God’s majestic works include rain, sun, snow and other natural occurrences that make it possible for man to live successfully on earth. These are powerful means for him to show power over earth, sky, and all that is alive. When God asked that question, he wanted men to think deeply about these creations that were simple but very powerful in our eyes. For one thing, snow covers many areas of earth at certain times in the year. The second factor in that Bible verse is hails, which is also part of the heavenly manifestations of God’s power.
The time of snow is also the time for changing seasons and animals in the wilds start to look for new ways to survive the cold. But it is a much anticipated time each year because not just humans expect the snow to drop softly on the ground, changing seasons and animal adaptations are all signs that creatures expect it to arrive. The men that God talked to, asking them about the storehouse of snow would have also been surprised as it may been possible that none of them ever gave thought to the idea that snows were stored in a habitat.
Where the habitat could have been and how it looks are things which the human mind cannot successfully fathom. All that is known is that the snow comes at the time people expects it to come and goes away in its due time as if there is a keeper of it, who never sleeps or dies. If man can see the storehouse of snow with any instrument, there is a doubt anyone has ever entered the storehouse of snow. These words would have made Job and his pals to think deeply over magnificent things they never knew were in existence. More than that, it reinforces the knowledge of a supreme being at work at all times.
A second aspect of the verse has to do with hails and this one was also a familiar thing to people of the time of Job. Somehow, it is part of snow but in this case it is made up at times of thunderstorms or in clouds that are cumulonimbus. Hails can fall at great speed and they’ve been used by God in the past to destroy Israel’s enemies. It is also a mystery for man as he really doesn’t know the storehouse of hails. That hails do really have a storehouse is made known when in times of war God used it kill wicked people.
The importance of this verse was for Job or any man to acknowledge God’s greatness and his power, which knows no bounds. The doubt in the hearts of men is put to rest that there is no higher power. Man is not absolute, he doesn’t know everything, and his life is tied to the one who made him. Both snow and hail are the handiwork of a great wise mind and no one can actually look and successfully find the source of his power or wisdom. Yes, no one can even ask him what he has been doing and what he will do in the future.
