Governor Kayode Fayemi tests positive to COVID-19

Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi has on Wednesday, tested positive to Coronavirus.  

In a tweet on his verified handle @kfayemi, he announced that his third COVID-19 test had returned positive, and he would be going into isolation to commence treatment.  

“I took my third Covid-19 test yesterday and it came back positive. I’m generally ok and I’m already self isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team. I’m delegating critical tasks to my Deputy but will continue routine duty from home. JKF,” the tweet read.  

What this means 

Deputy Governor of Ekiti state, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi will take over critical duties and roles concerning the running of the state, while Fayemi receives treatment.  

However, the governor has noted that he would continue to do some routine tasks from home while self-isolating.  

Backstory 

Several public office holders, including six state governors and other political appointees, have tested positive to the Coronavirus, within the last three months. 

Nigeria currently has 37,810 confirmed cases, with 805 deaths recorded so far. About 15,677 persons including several political appointees and State governors have fully recovered after receiving treatment.
