Official statistics released by the Home Office also said searches of all black, Asian and ethnic minority groups were 4.1 times higher than those of white people. These figures were down from 9.5 and 4.3 times the previous year. The data published on Tuesday for 2019/20 showed police carried out the highest number of stops and searches in seven years, rising by more than 50% in 12 months.
