Turkey quake death toll hits 51

The death toll from an earthquake that toppled buildings in Turkey’s western province of Izmir and triggered a small tsunami has risen to 51 as crews are racing against the clock to save people trapped under rubble in Turkey and Greece.

Turkey’s Vice President Fuat Oktay raised the death toll in the country’s third-largest city, to 51 and as rescuers pulled more bodies out of toppled buildings, Anadolu news agency reported. Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, or AFAD, said nearly 900 people were injured in Turkey while two teenagers were killed Friday on the Greek island of Samos and at least 19 others were injured.
