Shelf Drilling, a global provider of premium jack-up rig services, announced a 5-well contract with Total E&P Nigeria (‘TOTALENERGIES’) for the Baltic, a jack-up rig rated to drill in water depths up to 375 feet.
The Dubai-based drilling contractor indicated that the 380-day contract period with TOTALENERGIES included an option for extending the engagement based on the success of the project.
Shelf Drilling has operated in offshore Nigeria since the launch of the company in 2012 and currently has four rigs in the country.
West Africa-Angola
Shelf Drilling’s activity is picking up in West Africa. In mid-June, the company disclosed that it had signed a one-year contract for its Tenacious jack-up in Angola. The rig will work for Chevron’s Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. (CABGOC) starting in January 2022.
Encouraging Signs
Speaking on a recent shareholders conference, Shelf Drilling CEO David Mullen indicated there were “encouraging signs of an improving jack-up market with the recent recovery and stabilization of the oil price. We have seen a number of recent contract awards and have built a solid pipeline of marketing opportunities.”
