Who owns Antarctica?
Antarctica remains the only continent on earth with no native human population. As a matter of fact no country own the Antarctica, rather all activities are gorverned by the Antarctic treaty of 1959 and other associated agreement referred collectively as the Antarctica treaty.
Basically a number of countries run the continent as a condominium. However, the original signatory took place among 12 countries which are active during the international Geophysical year which took place 1957-1958 and further established over 55 Antarctic research stations.Antarctica may be void of inhabitants because of its extreme weather conditions. However, since nobody owns Antartica you can visit the place without a visa but if you are a citizen of the country that signed Antartica treaty then you do need to get permission, this is almost done by tour organizers. You are required to get a permit before you go. If you come from a country that did not sign a treaty then you can visit Antarctica without a permit, but the port were you will leave from may still require a permit.
