Arsenal are hoping to confirm the signing of Willian on a free transfer from Chelsea in the coming days, according to reports.

The Blues winger is set to end his seven-year stint in west London and join the Gunners after failing to agree a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Willian has been pushing for a new three-year extension to his contract at Chelsea – something Blues chiefs are reluctant to offer with only a two-year offer on the table.

And according to the Brazilian edition of ESPN, Arsenal have beaten the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United to seal the signing of the 31-year-old, with the deal set to be announced ‘in the coming days’.

It is understood Willian will sign a three-year deal at the Emirates, with the option for a further year to be added in to his contract.

Mikel Arteta is scouring the market for cheap attackers this summer and is also considering a loan move for Barcelona outcast Philippe Coutinho as he prepares for his first full season in charge at the Emirates.

The 28-year-old former Liverpool midfielder continues to be linked with a Premier League return and according to his agent it is now a real possibility.

However, a stumbling block in any proposed deal could come in the shape of the Brazilian’s mammoth £240,000-a-week wages.

Returning to Willian, Lampard remained coy on whether he would sign a new deal at Chelsea following the club’s 2-1 defeat to the Gunners in the FA Cup final last weekend.

He said: “It is his decision, I haven’t got that answer. I know the situation at the club’s end.
