Adolescent females perish while attempting disturbing ‘subway surfer’ TikTok phenomenon

Two teenage girls, who ascended onto a moving subway train in New York for a troubling social media spectacle, were subsequently removed in body bags.

Authorities discovered the two unconscious females, one merely 13 years old, at the Marcy Avenue station in Brooklyn shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday.

The girls, believed to be attempting the TikTok challenge of ‘Subway surfing’ by filming themselves racing through the city, were declared deceased at the site.

A group exceeding a dozen young people was seen sprinting through the train carriage prior to the girls climbing onto the rooftop.

Police described them as girls engaged in subway surfing.

“It is heartbreaking that two young girls have lost their lives because they mistakenly perceived riding atop a subway train as an acceptable pastime,” says one policeman.

Authorities warn parents and guardians that climbing on top of a subway car is not ‘surfing’—it’s akin to suicide.

Those who know about the death are reportedly still grieving.

Authorities indicated that the investigation is still active.

Several adolescents, predominantly males, have suffered fatal or severe injuries in recent years while attempting to ‘subway surf,’ a practice with a history extending back a century, but has been intensified by social media.

The recent fatalities bring the total number of victims of subway surfing to five, according to police. Last year, there were six deaths, with five individuals killed while attempting the stunts in 2023.
